We help in the recovery of equines and guarantee them a dignified life so that they can continue to be part of the Mediterranean culture.

We are Tivissa Donkeys Firefighters (TDFF). We were founded in February 2021, following a call from some Swiss gentlemen, who as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, decided to return to their country of origin. It was this first “rescue” that made this project go ahead.

We are pioneers in reintroducing equids and, more specifically, donkeys in the Sierra de Llaberia and Tivissa Mountains. We work to ensure a better life for the donkeys so they continue to be a part of our culture.

Our purpose is that they continue to perform tasks and work, within the dignity of this species, to ensure their presence in our everyday lives. That is why we are carrying out different projects that allow donkeys to actively and effectively participate in environmental protection and sustainable development tasks.

Carrying our brigade has many benefits, not only for the animals but for all of us. Donkeys can take on a key role in clearing the forest undergrowth, thus promoting a more sustainable and environmentally friendly natural space. These animal-version firefighters help prevent forest fires and facilitate firefighting.

Without the efforts of the excellent team working with the donkeys, nothing would be possible.

Recovery and home for equines

TDFF was created with the aim of rescuing and recovering donkeys that live in difficult situations of mistreatment, isolation or abandonment, and offering them a dignified life. We facilitate their life in herds and freedom, in large natural spaces. We accompany them in the recovery process so that they feel free, healthy and safe. We help them to recover their balance and physical, emotional and mental health, and we facilitate their contact with the natural environment and with the rest of the group. They receive our support and watchful eye, and when necessary, a supplement of fodder and veterinary care.

Ancient techniques for current problems

Fire prevention

Among the many benefits of the brigade is its contribution to clearing undergrowth biomass. The donkeys naturally reduce a load of forest mass, thus facilitating firefighting work in the event of a fire. The forests provide them with food and they thank them by protecting the area from possible fires.
